Toronto

While we are on the subject of Canada, I want to add a few photos I took several years ago in Toronto.

Toronto's skyline in the distance
Toronto is a beautiful and exciting city. With its lakefront and rich architectural tapestry, there is a lot about Toronto that is reminiscent of Chicago. Needless to say, its autumns and winters also bring Chicago to mind. The famous CN Tower, on the left, above, dominates the skyline and oversees the urban spread.

Completed in 1976, the CN Tower serves as a communications and observation tower. At its time of completion, the CN Tower was considered the world's tallest free-standing structure and the world's tallest tower. Its architecture possesses a simple elegance.

One of my fondest memories was strolling down Queen Street and browsing in its eclectic mix of stores and selecting from its wide array of restaurants a place for lunch or dinner. I also enjoyed visiting the St. Lawrence Market, which is a fresh market in Toronto featuring a wide variety of produce and grocery items. One of my favorites was a store selling a variety of its own mustard blends, including one made with stout beer. That one was a dream come true!

Structure, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Honestly, I don't remember what exactly this structure was. Was it part of some school of design? I can't recall. No matter. Walking on my way to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), I was simply amazed by this structure, especially by its dramatic juxtaposition with a very traditionally designed house.

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) houses an extensive art collection, particularly of artwork by Canadian artists, in a beautifully modern facility. When I visited, they had a large collection of paintings by Group of Seven artist, Lawren Harris, whose inspiration often came from his native Canadian environment.  Check it out: AGO

Pub, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Honestly, I didn't have the chance to eat here; I just liked the name of the place.
