Canal Life, Phoenix, AZ
Out of the land of winter and back to the land of perpetual summer, I captured this photo today while walking a canal path just north of Camelback Road, between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Crisscrossing over the Phoenix landscape is a network of canals that has been present in this area for ages. Largely forgotten or ignored by many, some of them serve as walking and jogging paths for some of us. Ideas have been proposed on how to optimize this geographic feature by building residential and commercial life to run along these water routes and highlight them as a unique resource. Instead, they lie hidden behind gated backyards that are obscured by tall, overgrown oleander. What a shame.
