This past month has been a real homecoming for me. It's good to be back in familiar surroundings. This morning, I took a walk around Arizona State University's Tempe campus and captured a few random scenes. The first, the statue above, entitled "Spirit," is of a racing herd of horses, located near ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business. I love the detail and the sense of motion captured here. The sense of strength and energy portrayed in this statue really serves to embody the statue's own title.

Followers of this blog know that I have been on a quest my first year back to find a bit of autumn in central Arizona. Here is a tree with a fiery crown of autumn leaves. Of course, this is in late December, but no matter. It is beautiful, all the same. The juxtaposition of autumnal red leaves with a palm tree in the background seems a little odd to this Midwesterner, who associates palm trees with endless summer, but I'll happily take it.

A statue bearing the logo and name of Arizona State University, located in front of the School of Sustainability. I think this statue is new, as I don't recall it being here before. Last week, graduating students walked up these steps and stood close to this sign, while proud parents eagerly snapped photographs of their new graduates.
