Culinary Excursion
Tonight, I decided to make something different. For a while, I have been wanting to make mujaddara, a Middle Eastern dish of lentils and rice topped with sauteed onions. While most recipes I found for this labelled it an Arabic dish, the first time I had this was at a Persian restaurant in Milwaukee. Good stuff. I took a departure from the recipe I had by using salt and pepper, a pinch each of allspice and cayenne pepper, cumin, and, when adding the rice, one stick of cinnamon. The raisins I stirred into the individual bowl before topping it with onions. Obviously, I was proud of how good it turned out. Sometimes taking a digression from the typical can be a rewarding experience.
