Desert Accent, Phoenix, AZ

Hummingbird and agave artwork, Phoenix, AZ
This specimen of desert-themed art is mounted on the side of the Central Avenue overpass for the Maricopa Freeway, just outside of downtown Phoenix. There are actually four of these altogether, with each one unique, including one on each end of the south side of the overpass (this one is located on the southwest end) and one on each side of the north end. In addition, art decorates both interior sides of the overpass, featuring representations of saguaro and other desert wildlife. This particular one, of an agave in bloom and hovering hummingbirds, is my favorite, and I have been wanting to capture it in a photograph for over a month now. I also wanted to snap photos of the other artworks, but I was in the car, anticipating the traffic light changing to green, and breakfast at the Good Egg Restaurant was waiting, especially that morning cup of hot coffee!

  1. Chicago could use some art on the walls of Hubbard's Cave!
